Get your personalised MTD reporting schedule and never miss a quarterly deadline
What you need to know about quarterly updates
- Quarterly updates are NOT tax returns – they’re basic summaries of income and expenses
- Deadline is 7th of the month following the quarter end – this applies to both the tax year and calendar quarters
- You still file an annual return – due 31 January following the tax year
- First-year grace period – no penalty points for late quarterly updates in your first MTD year
- Keep digital records – all income and expenses have to be recorded digitally
- Use compatible software – HMRC needs you to use approved MTD-compatible software
- We wrote an original song about MTD and quarterly updates, it’s called “Four Times a Year” and no, it’s not AI. It’s a proper pop song, written and recorded in London. It’s available on Apple Music, Spotify, and there’s a lyric video on YouTube – and it definitely helps you remember the MTD deadlines.
